Polyethylene (PE)

We supply on global scale high purity Polyethylene (PE) polymers in varied densities: Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE); Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

Polyethylene, often referred to as polyethene, is the most common thermoplastic polymer with over 60 million tonnes produced annually worldwide. Polyethene is produced by polymerization of ethylene monomer. It is widely used to produce packaging products like plastic films, bags and bottles among others.

Strong growth rate in the demand for polyethylene is primarily as a result of its end-use substitution for non-synthetic, non durable applications such as grocery and garbage bags.

LLDPE has density of 0.915 to 0.940 g/cm3and is produced under high pressure. LLDPE has higher tensile strength and higher impact and puncture resistance than does LDPE. It is very flexible and elongates under stress. It is used to make thinner films with better environmental stress cracking resistance.

LLDPE resins supplied by Berium are suitable for a wider range of industrial applications including: in the manufacturing plastic bags and sheets, plastic containers covers, lids and pipes among others.

LDPE has density range of between 0.910 g/cm3 – 0.940 g/cm3 with more tensile strength compared to LLDPE. LDPE is made in translucent or opaque variations. LDPE processing is operated under very high pressure at moderate temperatures.

Berium Group is committed to support clients from all over the world with reliable supply of highest quality LDPE resins used for production of plastic bags, dispensing bottles, molded laboratory equipments and other extensive industrial applications, including:

Aseptic packaging- used as the waterproof inner and outer layer of juice and milk cartons. Aseptic packages contain a mix of paper (70%), LDPE (24%), and aluminium (6%), with a tight polyethene inside layer.
Packaging for computer hardware, such as screen cards, hard disk drives and optical disc drives
Trays and general purpose containers
Six pack rings
Plastic wraps for sealing food items in containers
Corrosion resistant work places
Playground slides in parks, schools, playgrounds and backyards

HDPE has density range of between 0.940 g/cm3 to 0.97 g/cm3. HDPE is produced by three types of processes and all the three processes operate at relatively low pressures: the slurry process, the solution process and gas phase process. Berium Group is a premier global supplier of HDPE resins sourced from the leading producer partners from around the world.

HDPE has higher strength and harder than LDPE. Due to its resistance to different solvents, it is used in chemical resistant piping.

Other applications for HDPE resins include;

    • foods storage containers like crates and boxes, plastic containers
    • geomembrane for hydraulic applications
    • bottle caps,
    • bottles (for food products, detergents, cosmetics)
    • fuel tanks for vehicles
    • corrosion protection for steel pipelines
    • natural gas distribution pipe systems among others
    • furniture – folding chairs and tables
    • plastic lumber for outdoor decking
    • geothermal heat transfer piping systems
    • swimming pool installation
    • coax cable inner insulator
