Polyethylene, often referred to as polyethene, is the most common thermoplastic polymer with over 60 million tonnes produced annually worldwide. Polyethene is produced by polymerization of ethylene monomer. It is widely used to produce packaging products like plastic films, bags and bottles among others.
Strong growth rate in the demand for polyethylene is primarily as a result of its end-use substitution for non-synthetic, non durable applications such as grocery and garbage bags.
LLDPE has density of 0.915 to 0.940 g/cm3and is produced under high pressure. LLDPE has higher tensile strength and higher impact and puncture resistance than does LDPE. It is very flexible and elongates under stress. It is used to make thinner films with better environmental stress cracking resistance.
LLDPE resins supplied by Berium are suitable for a wider range of industrial applications including: in the manufacturing plastic bags and sheets, plastic containers covers, lids and pipes among others.
LDPE has density range of between 0.910 g/cm3 – 0.940 g/cm3 with more tensile strength compared to LLDPE. LDPE is made in translucent or opaque variations. LDPE processing is operated under very high pressure at moderate temperatures.

HDPE has density range of between 0.940 g/cm3 to 0.97 g/cm3. HDPE is produced by three types of processes and all the three processes operate at relatively low pressures: the slurry process, the solution process and gas phase process.
