The main industrial application of sulfur is in the manufacture of sulfuric acid. Sulfur is the major derivative of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) which is one of the most important elements used as an industrial raw material.

Sulfur is used in vulcanization of rubber. Natural (uncured) rubber is soft and sticky with relatively few uses. Through vulcanization process, rubber is converted into suitable material by heating it with sulfur making it hard, non-sticky and more elastic. This makes rubber useable in numerous applications.

Sulfur is also used in batteries, detergents, fungicides, manufacture of fertilizers, gun power, matches and fireworks. Other important industrial applications where sulfur is used are making corrosion-resistant concrete which has great strength and is frost resistant, for solvents and in a host of other products of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
