More about Alumina &Aluminium

Worldwide annual production of Alumina is about 100 million metric tons. Approximately two tonnes of alumina are required to produce one ton of aluminium. Refined aluminium metal is produced through industrial processing of alumina by an electrolytic process. Bayer refining process used by alumina refineries worldwide involves four steps: digestion, clarification, precipitation and calcination / sintering.

Pure aluminium has only limited uses, but when alloyed with other metals such as zinc, nickel, tin, copper, iron, magnesium, silicon and lead, aluminium becomes very suitable in various industrial applications including medical, transportation, energy, telecommunication, aviation and electronics among others.
